Did you know...?

Hi Bloggers!!
This is the last post, so we thought that it could be funny to know some curiosities about The Respiratory System.

1. Horses only breathe through their noses
For humans, breathing through the mouth comes naturally and easily. The same is for many other mammals. Horses, have a flap of tissue which prevents them from breathing through their mouths.

2. Sneeze particles may not travel as fast as people think
In the past, modeling studies have estimated the velocity of a sneeze at 112 mph (180 km/h). However, a 2013 study found that a sneeze's velocity is even lower than the rates determined.

3. The lungs are the only organs that can float on water
Each of your lungs contains about 300 million balloon-like structures called alveoli. When these structures are filled with air, the lungs become the only organs that can float on water.

4. Some people can hold their breath for more than 20 minutes
The average time an adult can hold his or her breath is between 30 and 60 seconds. Stig Severinsen holds the Guinness World Record: he held his breath underwater for 22 minutes.

5. You lose a lot of water just by breathing
How much water do you lose from breathing? When at rest, humans exhale up to 17.5 milliliters
